Biographical Sketch: Mr. Hugh Spann (Phillip Hugh Spann, Jr.) was the scion of an old Dothan family. His relatives had owned Spann Farm approximately five miles west of downtown Dothan (Fred Watson, Hub of the Wiregrass) as well as two mansions on Main Street featured in an early 20th century post card of fine homes in Dothan.
Mr. Spann was an avid local historian who self-published a book of local photographs ca. 2009, and other books before that.
Mr. Spann died on January 22, 2010.
Scope / Content: Contains 63 black & white and sepia tone photographic prints in various sizes, plus 6 advertising brochures. Many of the photos appeared in his self-published book A Link to the Past, volume 1.
Provenance: TSUD graduate Scotty Kirkland secured some of Mr. Spann's photographs in an estate sale after Spann's death. Kirkland made these available to the Archives. Other photos that did not sell at the estate sale were donated by the auction house to the Houston Love Memorial Library.
