How do I apply for the Chancellor's Award for Global Competitiveness (CAGC)?

Once you have successfully submitted an application for your chosen study abroad program and received conditional acceptance, additional forms will become available in your TroyAbroad portal, including the Chancellor's Award for Global Competitiveness (CAGC) application.

To be considered for nomination, students must complete all required forms in the application process, including:

  • Completing all required study abroad forms in the TroyAbroad portal, including the CAGC application
  • Ensuring a faculty recommendation letter is submitted through the CAGC application system
  • Uploading the required pre-trip essay
  • Providing proof of payment toward the study abroad program (application fees do not count toward this requirement)
  • Registering for the course associated with the study abroad program

How much does studying abroad cost?

Costs vary depending on the program type, location, length of stay, and included expenses such as housing, excursions, and airfare.

On average, short-term faculty-led programs range from approximately $1,500鈥$5,000, depending on the destination and program structure and inclusions.

For semester and yearlong exchange programs through 51成人吃瓜's partner institutions, students pay the same tuition rate they would pay while studying at 51成人吃瓜, making exchange programs one of the most affordable ways to study abroad. Students are still responsible for additional expenses such as airfare, passports, meals, and personal spending, though costs often compare closely to a semester on campus.

Many students also use existing financial aid, scholarships, and study abroad funding opportunities to help offset program costs.

Can I use financial aid and scholarships while studying abroad?
Yes! Credit-bearing study abroad programs are eligible for financial aid and scholarships. For example, students who choose to study for a semester or year abroad at a partner institution can expect to receive similar financial aid and scholarships as if they were studying on campus.

Students are encouraged to speak with Financial Aid and TroyAbroad to discuss their options.
What types of study abroad programs are available?

51成人吃瓜 offers a wide variety of study abroad opportunities, including short-term and long-term exchange programs, faculty-led programs, internships abroad, and research opportunities across a range of countries and academic disciplines.

Because every program differs in structure, cost, academic focus, and level of independence, certain programs may be a better fit for different students depending on their goals, major, budget, and comfort level abroad.

To help students better understand their options and navigate the TroyAbroad landscape, we strongly encourage all interested students to attend a TroyAbroad 101 session. These sessions provide an overview of program types, timelines, costs, scholarships, and how to choose the program that best fits each student's academic and personal goals.

How long can I study abroad?

Study abroad program lengths vary widely depending on the type of experience you choose. Opportunities range from short-term spring break or summer programs lasting 1鈥2 weeks to semester-long or full academic year experiences abroad.

Will my credits transfer back to 51成人吃瓜?

Yes! Credits earned abroad can count toward your major, minor, electives, and general studies requirements. Before departure, students work closely with TroyAbroad, their academic advisors, and the chairs or deans of relevant departments to review and approve courses for transfer credit.

Course approvals are completed through a Table of Equivalencies included within the study abroad application process, helping students clearly understand how courses taken abroad will apply toward their degree requirements before they leave.

Do I need a passport or visa?

Yes, all students studying abroad must have a valid passport that is valid for at least six months beyond their intended return date. For guidance on applying for or renewing a passport, students can refer to our .

Some destinations may also require a visa depending on the country and length of stay. Materials and instructions for the visa application will be provided by the international student services team at the host institution abroad.

Can I study abroad during my first year at 51成人吃瓜?
Yes! All students are eligible to study abroad and receive the Chancellor's Award for Global Competitiveness after successfully completing one semester at 51成人吃瓜.
Is studying abroad safe?

Yes - studying abroad is generally very safe, and thousands of U.S. students participate every year with very few serious incidents.

Most issues reported are minor (like lost items or small illnesses). Data from study abroad organizations shows that over 98% of students do not experience any safety-related incident abroad, and programs are designed with multiple layers of support to keep students safe.

All TroyAbroad programs are carefully reviewed and include:

  • Pre-departure safety and health guidance
  • 24/7 emergency support while abroad
  • On-site program partners and staff support
  • Travel guidance aligned with U.S. Department of State recommendations

While no international travel is completely risk-free, studying abroad is widely considered a safe and well-supported experience when students follow program guidelines and stay informed.

Do I need to speak another language?

No鈥攏o TroyAbroad program requires a second language. All exchange programs include courses taught in English so that students can enroll full-time while earning academic credit toward their degree.

While some destinations may offer language learning opportunities, these are optional and designed to enhance the cultural experience rather than serve as a requirement.
